Welcome to another exciting school year at Al-Iman School.  I am delighted to have your student in my classroom this year and look forward to sharing the school year together with him/her.  As a teacher, I will endeavor to create an educational partnership with you and your student that will foster courage, determination, and passion for knowledge.  In addition to this, my commitment as an educators will be to provide your student with a nurturing and challenging educational environment that will ensure his/her academic success in middle school.

Class Schedule

Students enters class saying salams
Take HW out on the desk,
start working on bell ringer,(questions from bell ringer will be on test/quizzes)
Copy HW for the next day in your folder/agenda
Today’s objective (discussion)
Short video clip/ demonstration
Clean the area near and around your desk
Grab HW for the day (It is students responsibility to take HW home).
Leave silently.

Classwork counts as 25% of your total grade.

What counts as classwork?

1.Coming prepared to the class (notebook, HW and  pen)
2. Bell ringer
3. Taking notes
4. Formal assessments
It will be assigned (almost) everyday.
HW will be reinforcement of what we learn in class.
Parents can check H.W assignments on school website or look in the science folder.
It will either be a worksheet or on studyIsland.
It shouldn’t take more then 25 minutes for a student to complete HW.
If you have any problem with HW please see me during Lunch or study hall.
Late work
I will accept late assignments up to 5 days after due date.Students lose a letter grade (10 points) for each day the assignment is late.
Students will not be allowed to turn in bulk work at the end of the term.
Being absent does not excuse you from missing work.It is your responsibility to get caught up.

How to make up missing work?

1. Ask your friend for help.
2. See me during study hall.
Grading scale
100 – 90    A
89 – 80      B
79 – 70      C
69 – 60      D
lower than 59 Fail ( Conference with parent)
Tests and quizzes
You will be given at least a week notice before the Test.
You will be given a study guide
We will be practicing for the test in class for one day for 7th and 8th grade and 2-3 days for 6th grade.
There are no extra credits.
Failed test
If you fail a test:
1.Do the test corrections on a separate sheet of paper. Staple it with your failed test.
2.Get it signed by your parent (guardian)
3.Come see me during study-hall the next day to get half credit.
How to do test corrections?
On a clean ruled paper write the full question and the correct answer in good legible handwriting.
Test corrections have to be turned in on the day it is due for half credit.
Science labs/Group work
Labs are not playtime.
Absolutely no eating in the classroom.
Do not taste, smell or touch anything in the lab without permission.
Stay on task all the time.
If you cannot follow the directions for lab you will not be able to participate in it any more. And will be working on a work sheet instead.
If any accident/ break report me immediately.

There are serious consequences (expulsion/ pay damages)  if you are caught doing any of these things:

Writing on the walls or desks.

Damaging Computers, text books, desks, floor, sinks, or any school property.

Bathroom break
You can use bathroom during snack time/ lunch
Please do not ask to go to the bathroom during the first 10 minutes of the class.
Bathroom breaks are for emergencies only.
Science Fair December 16th – 18th
It is never too early to start working on science fair project.
Nov 16th letter and timeline informing about science fair will be sent home.

December 16th – 18th Student presentation for judges.

We do not use online text book for science. Each student has an assigned science text book,which they can check out any time they need it.They are encouraged to take their science note books home frequently to review for test or quizzes.
