About Me!
Raised in Ontario, Canada, I am proud to have been part of a diverse community that fosters the importance of benefiting the collective, rather than being on a quest to only benefit myself. All those stereotypes of being “Canadian” are all true—we apologize for everything and love our Tim Hortons! The values I learned being a Muslim Canadian gave me a desire to become an educator, and share my passion for being a strong, contributing citizen in society. The value teachers bring to a child’s life are irreplaceable. Being an educator has been a blessing more than a profession, as it’s given me the privilege of harvesting knowledge and character for a better future.
I have had the honor of teaching for 12 years, classes ranging from grades 5-8. Whether I was a homeroom teacher that taught all subjects, or a Middle School ELA teacher, I feel blessed to have gained the classroom experience that has taught me so much about growth and challenging yourself to be better—whether as a student or educator. During my time as a teacher, I was the ELA Department Lead for 3 years at the local Islamic School in Toronto, Olive Grove, which populated over 700 students. Overlooking the ELA program for K-8 was a challenge full of great rewards, as we developed programs that catered to all the needs of our students in the scope of ELA. Saying goodbye to Olive Grove School after 10 years was one of the hardest things I had to do, however I was excited for the fresh start in North Carolina.
Alhamdillah, Al Iman School provided me the opportunity of being an Instructional Coach for staff for one year, before becoming Assistant Principal. I am blessed to be using my 12 years of classroom experience towards fulfilling the vision and mission of the school of achieving Islamic and academic excellence. Going into my 3rd year as Assistant Principal, I have learned the importance of being a support for all stakeholders—staff, parents, and students, in order for the vision of the school to be achieved. This is a position that can’t be done without the dedication and hard work of all our stakeholders, in order for us to work collectively towards building the best school in the Triangle, inshAllah.
